The entry requirements to the IIT JAM have been loosened this year. On March 27, the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc) released the IIT JAM 2025 scorecard, and the results were announced on March 20, according to the official website. “With the COVID-19, the qualification requirement is Passing of the qualifying degree for all categories.”. Out of the 5,89,69 test-takers, 14,725 qualified for the exam, and they now have to complete the IIT JAM 2025 application form to be eligible for the final admissions process. In the IIT JAM 2025 test for seven subjects, which are Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH), the test was conducted on February 14. Economics is the new paper for JAM 2025 admissions.

About IIT JAM

An all-India level online entrance exam, Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM), is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India, every year on a rotating basis. JAM 2025 candidates are informed that a biometric system for verifying their identity (fingerprints) will be used for both admissions and exams. The IIT JAM is conducted to provide admission to MSc and other postgraduate programs offered at IITs and integrated PhD programs offered at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. JAM examination scores are also accepted for graduate admissions at several National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).

Exam Centres

There were eight zones in each of the cities where science entrance exams were conducted. According to the official website, one or more IIT JAM exam centres may be found in a given city. On the admit cards issued to candidates, the exact details of the IIT JAM exam centres are listed.

When filling out the application form, applicants had the option of choosing up to three exam cities in order of preference. However, you should note that the first two cities for the exam had to come from the same zone. Candidates can select any city within India for their third examination. According to IISC Bangalore, the IIT JAM exam centres 2025 have been categorised by zones. There were 82 test cities across the country where the IIT JAM was held this year.

Steps for Admission

To apply for IIT JAM, first, complete the application form

Applicants had to apply for the exam online for IIT JAM 2025 registration. There was a link for the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) present on the official website of the exam, which had to be visited by candidates to fill out their IITJAM 2025 Application Form.

The application fee could also be paid online through net banking, debit cards or credit cards for IIT JAM 2025. You may note that a candidate may apply for up to two test papers simultaneously. Applicants were required to pay an additional application fee for taking the second test paper.

Admit Cards for IITJAM can be downloaded here.

From the official website of the exam, candidates can download their IIT JAM 2025 Admit Card. Candidates were required to print and bring the admit card and valid identification (original) to the appointed test centre after downloading the admit card. Those without an admit card and proof of identification were not allowed to appear in the 2025 JAM exam.

The third step is to appear for IIT JAM.

After that, the candidates had to take the exam at the exam centre assigned to them. There are a few IIT JAM papers available to candidates. Candidates, however, must make sure their tests are conducted in separate sessions when taking two tests.

Check the results of IIT JAM in step 4

This year’s IIT JAM results were made available on the exam website on March 20. Candidate’s results in IIT JAM 2025 are scored according to their All-India Rank (AIR). A Merit List for the entire country will be prepared based on the AIR. A candidate’s name/roll number appearing on the merit list is considered eligible for admission into an MSc course at an IIT and admission into an Integrated PhD programme at an IISc.

The fifth step is to fill out an application for IIT JAM counselling

The admission form is available on the official JAM 2025 website for qualified candidates. Only one admission form must be completed and submitted regardless of whether the candidate qualifies for one or two tests. Candidates must pay a processing fee of Rs 600 in the online mode through JOAPS after submitting the admission form.

The sixth step is to review the list of admissions.

After the admission form and processing fee have been submitted, an admission list will be published on the official website of JAM 2025. Candidate offer letters will be sent by the respective admitting college/ institute(s) after the announcement of the list. In addition to submitting an acceptance form and an advance seat reservation fee online through JOAPS, candidates who receive an offer letter must submit an acceptance form.

Following this, candidates will be allocated seats, and the IIT JAM 2025 admission process will be complete.

It is important to note that being in the merit lists of any test does not guarantee or imply automatic admission. To be admitted, students must match their merit with seats available at the admitting institute(s),” states the official website.

It should also be noted that admission to IISER Bhopal, IISER Pune, and the Centralised Counselling for MSc/ MSc (Tech) for NITs (CCMN) will not be made through the shared JAM admission process, the website informs.
