Several prestigious institutes, including IISc, IISERs, NISER, and others, collaborate to organise the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST). JEST 2023 was held at 37 exam centres across the country by the organising authorities, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). The national-level entrance exam was planned to be held on April, 2023, but has been postponed until further notice, according to the official JEST 2023 dates, which were issued online. Applicants were notified that they needed to pass the JEST 2023 exam if they wanted to pursue a PhD or Integrated PhD degree in one of the participating institutes in the below-mentioned tracks.

Eligibility Criteria for a PhD in Physics in JEST 2023
- The requirements for taking the JEST exam for a PhD in Physics vary from institution to college.
- Physics Master’s Degree (in all participating Institutes).
- MSc in Mathematics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, Optics & Photonics, Instrumentation, and Electronics will be considered at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics in Bangalore.
- At IISc, IMSc, ICTS-TIFR, IUCAA, JNCASR, NCRA-TIFR, TIFR-TCIS, RRI, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, and IISER Thiruvananthapuram, BE or BTech will be considered.
- IUCAA will consider applicants with a master’s degree in physics, electronics, astronomy, or applied mathematics.
- A master’s degree in physics, engineering physics, or applied physics is also acceptable at IPR.
- SNBNCBS will consider candidates with a master’s degree in physics, chemistry, applied mathematics, biophysics, or biochemistry.
- At TIFR, BTech Eng Phys will be evaluated.
- Applied Physics ME/MTech will be considered at NISER

Admissions Process for JEST Exam 2023
To participate in the JEST 2023 admission process effectively, candidates must follow the requirements outlined below.
1st step: Complete the JEST 2023 Application Form.
Applicants had to fill out an online application form for JEST 2023. They needed to pay the application cost once they had completed the application form, which they could do online using a credit/debit card or even net banking. Payment of the application fee was likewise only accepted online. There was no other option.
Step 2: Obtain your JEST 2023 admit card.
Applicants were required to obtain their JEST 2023 admit card from the exam’s official website. “Admit cards will not be distributed by post or email,” according to the official website. To the examination centre, bring a printout of your downloaded Admit Card and one of your photo IDs.”
Step 3: Take the Joint Entrance Screening Examination.
