TNEA or Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission is an entrance examination organized by Anna University. The admission into the university will be based on the class 12th result. TNEA 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for TNEA 2024 is as follows-

Nativity

  • The candidate should have passed 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th standard from a school situated in Tamil Nadu.
  • Those who have passed 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th standard from a school situated outside of Tamil Nadu must produce Original Nativity Certificate only in electronic form/digitally signed e-Certificate.
  • Children of Central Government Employees may also apply for admission, irrespective of their native, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past 5 years at the time of submission of application.
  • Children of employees in Public Sector or Government recognized Institutions who at the time of submission of application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years may also apply irrespective of their domicile.
  • Sons and daughters of All India service Tamil Nadu cadre officers are eligible to apply.

Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee

  • Candidates who are Sri Lankan Tamil Refugees studied in Tamil Nadu will be considered under open competition. They have to produce the following certificates
    • ID certificate from the Headquarters Tahsildar.
    • Those who have not registered in the refugee camp should produce an original passport, visa, and letter registered with Police Station.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed HSC (Academic: both +1 and +2) or equivalent with a minimum average percentage of 45% in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. 40% for Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim, MBC & DNC, SC/ SCA/ ST. Or
  • Aspirants should pass in HSC (Vocational subject: both +1 and +2) or equivalent with any one of the Engineering related subjects namely Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry with a minimum average percentage of 45% (40 % for Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim, MBC & DNC, SC/ SCA/ ST)

Eligibility Criteria for Marine Engineering

The eligibility criteria for Marine Engineering are a bit different from others as given below.

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as separate subjects with a minimum of 60% marks in PCM
  • Candidates also need to have a minimum of 50% in English either at 10th or 12th standard.
  • The age of a candidate should be less than 25 years
  • The minimum height is 157 cm
  • Weight of a candidate must be 48 kg or more.
  • Candidates must have normal colour vision

Women Candidates taking admission in Mining Engineering

  • Female candidates opting for mining engineering should note that as per Mines Act 1952, 46 (1) no woman shall, notwithstanding anything contained in any other law, be employed –
    • In any part of a mine that is below ground
    • In any part of the mine above ground except between the hours of 6 A.M. and 7 P.M
    • No female candidate shall descend or ascend a shaft in a cage or other means of conveyance unless accompanied by one or more adult males.

  • Choose what type of test you want to give based on what diploma you are pursuing
  • Navigate to the admission section of the website and click on the Apply button
  • Once the application form is opened, you have filled the application form with correct details like name, address, etc.
  •  After filling the form, click Next and upload the scanned copy of the required documents and click Next
  • Submit the application processing fee using Debit/ Credit Card, UPI etc.
  • Take a print out of the application form and the payment status for future use

  • HSC First year (+1) Mark sheet
  • HSC Second year (+2) / Equivalent Mark sheet
  • HSC Hall Ticket
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Permanent Community Certificate for ST, SC, SCA, MBC & DNC, BC and BCM (either Permanent card or electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate)
  • Nativity Certificate (only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate) (if applicable)
  • Income certificate (if applicable)
  • First Graduate Certificate (only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate) and
  • First Graduate Joint Declaration (if applicable)

  • Candidates who have applied for special reservation-
    • Relevant certificates for Son / Daughter of Ex-service men with Parent’s discharge certificate and ID card
    • Differently abled persons should bring Medical Certificate obtained from Medical Board (Consists of 3 Doctors)

TNEA Selection Process

The selection in TNEA will be based on the merit list prepared using the class 12th examinations. Class 12th percentage will be prepared with relevant subjects like Maths, Physics and Chemistry which will be reduced to 200 (Maths – 100, Physics – 50 and Chemistry – 50). Based on merit lists, overall and category-wise ranks will be given to candidates.

Counselling

Counselling is where the candidates who are listed on the merit list will be eligible to take admission. Counselling session is organised by the colleges to invite the candidates for admission in their colleges. In this event, you have to visit the venue on the notified date with the necessary documents and confirm your seat. You have to select the college that you want to choose as well however the availability of the college also depends on the merit.
