Eligibility Criteria
If you are willing to appear in WBCS then check the eligibility criteria mentioned below:
Educational Qualification
- Applicant must have completed graduation from a UGC-recognized University in any stream.
Age
- Group A & C: Applicant’s minimum age must be 21 years and the maximum should be 36 years.
- Group B: The candidate’s age must be between 20 and 36 years.
- Group D: Aspirant’s age must be between 21 and 38 years.
Note: Candidates belonging to OBC and Scheduled Tribes/Caste categories will get upper age relaxation for 3 and 5 years respectively.
Application Fee
The application fee is a mandatory formality for every candidate. So, while applying for the examination, pay the amount of ₹210 with the service charge and GST. However, candidates who belong to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or Persons with Disabilities are exempted from this.
Selection Process
The selection procedure for WBCS 2025 comprises three stages – Prelims, Mains, and Interviews.
Stage 1-Prelims
- The mode of Examination is offline.
- The exam time duration is 2.5 hours
- The paper will consist of Multiple Choice Questions
- The paper will consist of 200 questions for 200 marks
- The candidate will get 1 mark for every correct answer and there will be the deduction of 1/4 mark for every incorrect answer
- Subjects in the paper will be consisted of English Language, General Science, General Mental Ability
Stage 2-Mains
- Candidate will appear for the examination in the offline mode.
- Candidate will get 3 hours to complete the paper
- Paper will be descriptive
- Compulsory Papers include Language Paper (Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali), English, General Studies – Paper I, General Studies – Paper II, Constitution of India and Indian Economy, Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning
- Optional Subject Papers: (Only for candidates applying for group A and/or B)
Stage3-Interview
- The Interview will be for 200 marks for Group A and B, 150 marks for Group C, 100 marks for Group D
- The aim of the interview to assess candidate’s personal qualities, alertness of mind, logical exposition, leadership quality, etc
- Final selection list will be prepared on the basis of applicant’s performance in all the stages of the selection process of WBCS.
