A historic decision was taken by the Government of India and stated to the Supreme Court of India that now women will be allowed to participate in the NDA Entrance Examination. The implementation of the changes will be initiated from the next year i.e NDA Examination 2023.
A Writ Petition (No.1416/2020) was filed for seeking allowance for the females to participate in the NDA examination. The petitioner Kush Kalara raised this issue stating a violation of constitutional rights under Articles 14, 15, 16, and 19 of the Constitution of India.
The union of India however, stated that women are allowed to join all the branches of Defense forces through the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and Officer’s Training Academy (OTA) and not allowing women into the army through NDA as a policy decision.
The supreme court of India under the bench of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Hrishikesh Roy asserted that the policy decision is gender discriminating.
